About Vancouver

Incorporated in 1886, Vancouver has a population of around 675,000 making it the largest city in B.C. The coastal seaport of Western Canada has an area of 144km2 and lies towards the south-west corner of the mainland. Surrounded by 2 waterways - the Burrard inlet and Strait of Georgia - gives way to beautiful ocean views and easy access to ports and beaches.

The proximity to the sea and the presence of parks and greenery within city limits adds to the cities natural beauty against a backdrop of mountains.

Home to one of the largest urban parks in Northern America, Stanley park, at 1001 acres is a mixture of densely forested area with half a million trees and many other attractions such as the seawall, aquariums and pools.

Vancouver, one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Canada, is made up of just over 50% minority groups where 52% are not native english speakers.

Originally named Gastown, the settlement grew around a tavern on the edge of Hastings Mill in 1867 and is now marked by the gastown steam clock. The city was then renamed Vancouver in honour of George Vancouver, a royal navy Navigator.

Consistently named as one of the world's top five cities for livability and quality of life and 2020’s Number 1 city for quality of life in North America.
