About Burnaby

Burnaby is the third largest city in BC. It was incorporated as city in 1992. You will find Vancouver to the west, Coquitlam on the east and New Westminster southeast. Burnaby was named after Robert Burnaby a businessman from the 1860s.

Originally Burnaby was a rural district in the 1900s but over time developed into a residential community for workers in Vancouver and New Westminster.

Burnaby is home to many parks, universities and malls. You have parks such as Central Park, Deer Lake, and Burnaby Lake. The second largest university in BC, Simon Fraser University (SFU) as well as British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) are found in Burnaby. The largest mall in BC is also in Burnaby, Metropolis in Metrotown. One of the largest indoor ice rinks in the world is found in Burnaby as well, Burnaby 8-Rinks.
